This one-semester course is a study of the Ten Commandments, one of the most important texts in the whole of Scripture. It covers the exegesis of the Ten Commandments in their original context, their exposition elsewhere in the books of Exodus and Deuteronomy, their appropriation in later Biblical texts throughout the Old and New Testaments, and their application to contemporary life. The course therefore combines biblical exegesis, biblical theology, systematic theology, and ethical reflection.
Homework for this course involves reading Peter Leithart, The Ten Commandments: A Guide to the Perfect Law of Liberty, and also listening to a series of sermons on the Ten Commandments, which may be found below.
